Flaming in emails

Flaming is a virtual term for sending angry messages in email. This should be avoided because it tends to create a great deal of conflict that usually spirals out of control.

This is particularly important to remember when you are posting messages on an email list. Flame fights affect observers in a VERY negative way.

Also remember that what you say in an email cannot be taken back; it is in black and white.

Therefore, simply avoid writing emails when you are angry. Calm down before responding to an email that offends you. Once you send the message, it is gone and cannot be taken back. When you have calmed down, write your email and read it twice before you send it! Also, ask yourself, "would I say this to this person's face?"

If somebody openly flames you...

Keep calm!

Avoid drowning in details and minor arguments!

Apologize if necessary.
