Course Summary

This is a practical one-week course in the newly emerging “post heroic” styles of leading. “Leadership” is defined as the way we influence people and events through all of our daily activities, and “leaders” include all those who want to make a difference (including our students). Such leadership is rooted in a learning approach to people and situations and involves power with people rather than power over people. It relies on relationship and connection rather than hierarchy and distance, and aspires to serve human flourishing rather than the interests of the few.

Teachers are well placed to practise such leadership and to develop it in their students since they are “influencing” people all the time and at many levels. And this complements and extends humanistic teaching perfectly.

What are the key course contents?

Topics include:

Your personal experience of leadership, what works and what doesn’t.

New leadership models, feminine and masculine leadership, servant leadership, self -knowledge and personal maturity.

Identifying and developing your personalised leadership practice that embodies your deep values and beliefs, adds purpose and joy to your work, and serves others.

Specific ways of putting this into practice in and out of the classroom.
